Festival of the States in Washington DC

A Cappella Showcase is proud to announce that we have been chosen to attend the Festival of the States in Washington DC June 23rd, 2010. We will represent the state of South Dakota (see letter from the Governor) and perform at the US Navy Memorial, the Fairfax (Armed Forces Retirement Community), and various other US military venues in our nation’s capitol. We will also be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Washington DC Trip Itinerary

In order for the entire chorus to participate, we have been raising funds and are asking for your help. A Cappella Showcase will be hosting a number of events and raffles starting in January, 2010.

Members of the chorus will be seeking donations of items or monies. We are asking our friends and the Black Hills communities to support us in this venture.

A Cappella Showcase is a (501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.

To donate, contact Jo Prang at 484-3747 or Diane James at 431-1486, send donations to P.O. Box 3182, Rapid City, SD 57709 or choose from an option to the left.

We Sing Women’s A Cappella Four-Part Barbershop Harmony

What part would you sing?

The TENOR’s range is similar to a first soprano. Her part is almost always above the melody. She sings with lightness and bell-like clarity and with no vibrato.

The LEAD sings the melody, in about the same range as an alto. The melody in women’s barbershop music is pitched a little lower than that of regular choral music. A lead must sing with musical authority, moving smoothly through her range.

The BARITONE sings a harmony part which is in the same voice range as the lead. Her voice must be flexible, singing with strength and fullness when her notes are below the melody and with a lighter quality when her notes are above the leads.

The BASS is the lowest voice in the chord. Her range is similar to that of a second alto or contralto. She sings with authority, fullness and strength. Her part is the foundation for the barbershop sound.
