Judy Vidal has been a member of Sweet Adelines International since 1975 and has been Director of A Cappella Showcase since 1984. Her early training in all things music and dance began in Broken Bow, Nebraska, where she took lessons in tap, ballet, piano, and twirling. With one look at toe shoes, Judy realized her feet were not made for toe walking, and continued the nosier dance craft, tap. She can still throw a baton high in the air and catch it about half the time. The other half is why baton twirlers have very short nails. Her introduction to barbershop harmony came from the high school vocal music instructor, who put Judy, Judy, Jean and Janice in an a cappella quartet. The FOUR J'S entertained throughout central Nebraska for two years, eventually recording an honest to goodness LP (the large black disc) in Lincoln, Nebraska. Making a multi-decades' segue, Judy now records and mixes barbershop part vocals on digital equipment, burns CD's, and emails learning tracks to singers in Sweet Adelines' choruses and quartets around the world. Judy continues her work at KOTA Television in advertising, plays tennis, and loves to visit Professor Matt (Ellen) at Kings College, London, and Major Brus (Sheila, granddaughter Coral) in Newport News, Virginia. "I am honored to direct and shape the musical experience of this extraordinarily talented chorus. The repertoire I've chosen is difficult, yet these singers embrace challenge and tackle it head on. Even during the toughest rehearsal, there are moments of thrilling sound. I know you will enjoy the lush, rich harmonies, the catchy rhythms, and the inventive choreography. We hope it is for you, as it is for us, 'food for your soul'." You can contact Judy via email at JudyTunes@gmail.com |

"I came to Sweet Adelines the first time to placate a fellow teacher and friend. I was certain this group of little old ladies in tennis shoes singing boring barbershop had nothing to offer a 25-year-old singer/dancer. That night the chorus was singing "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "The Wind Beneath My Wings." I was hooked! The only part I had right was the tennis shoes." |

Welcome Everyone! Doesn't time fly when you are having fun? I am having fun! 1989 was the year I joined the chorus. Back then I sang Lead in the chorus and in a fun loving quartet called STRAIGHT FROM THE HILLS. Today I sing Bass. I have served on the board a number of years. As Team Manager, I coordinate all the activities of the chorus through the leadership team. In other words, delegate! My emphasis with the chorus has been to encourage members to sell advertising for our annual show booklet to offset the cost of costumes, coaches, educational workshops and travel expenses. My career has always involved working with people. First as a teacher, secondly working with the elderly as the Administrator of Meadowbrook Manor and then I was self employed with two assisted living facilities. Today I manage cases and teach at Behavior Management. I was honored as Employee of the Year 2007. I give thanks each and every day for my three sons: Chris, Matt, and Rick, and for the cherished friendships made in Sweet Adelines. |
